Nutrition Education Resources: Update February 2024

Working Group information

  • Working Group Lead: Angela Corona, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
  • Working Group Objective: Evaluate existing nutrition education resources for patients, developing a curated set of evidence based and culturally appropriate materials that would benefit patients and healthcare practitioners in Central Florida.

Progress Updates

  • The working group will be sunsetting.
  • Accomplishments of the Group:
    • Narrowed scope of what the group wanted to look at with regard to nutrition resources
    • Identified organizations doing nutrition education classes within the community
  • Next Steps with the WG Goal:
    • Identification of nutrition education resources will move to an internal SHFB led initiative
    • Resources will be featured on the upcoming Health and Hunger Task Force website
    • The working group’s endeavors to try to identify nutrition education classes led to deeper discussions of trying to find ways to better connect patients to resources – and led to focus on social needs referral platforms as a new focus area. The HHTF will work in 2024 to facilitate a series of community discussions regarding social needs referral platforms and the challenges/opportunities they pose to the community in addressing social needs.
